My name is Andrea. I was born and raised in NYC, by an AMAZING single mother. My family hails from the Dominican Republic. I grew up in Inwood and I am doing my best to raise my own bi-lingual (spanish & english), bi-cultural family there. I love to write about anything and everything related to parenting, being a mom, and my weight loss journey.
I have struggled most of my life with maintaining a healthy weight. I am 5’10” and currently weigh 258lbs. At my heaviest I was 282lbs (while pregnant), and 268 (after the baby was delivered). The slimmest I remember being was in High School at about 210lbs. I have always been confident and comfortable with my weight and have embraced all of my curves. And trust me there are many.
After college, in 2006 I found out that I suffered form a condition called PCOS-Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which affected my fertility, weight gain, and my bodies ability to handle insulin. The fact that lowering my weight could have aided all of those symptoms was not enough to push me to get in shape and lose the weight. I finally decided to change my lifestyle a few months ago after having been diagnosed with Diabetes and an irreversible autoimmune disorder called Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. This time around i couldn’t ignore everything going on within my body and decided to do something about it. As the mom of 2 beautiful boys, I owe it to them and myself to be healthy and live a long and healthy life.
I was introduced to the 21 Day Fix and it has changed my life. I am learning so much about eating healthy and controlling portions (which was a huge issue for me), but also pushing my body and discovering muscles I didn’t even know I had. Believe me, it has not been easy, but I am determined to get healthy!
Please join me on my path to health and fitness. As an overweight mom of 2 toddlers, a full time working Social Worker, studying for my Social Work License, and active PTA mom…If I can do it, I know you can too!
